About

Fabulous stories of drag and queer nightlife from Tadcaster’s international touring company, Roots

"I am what I am, I am my own special creation."

Join us for a one-off night of delightful, unexpected and uplifting stories celebrating drag in all its glory. Written and performed by talented writers from across Yorkshire, with creative direction by Tabby Lamb (Happy Meal, Fringe First Award). Expect something a bit different, with plenty of realness, shade and quality T.

Host Kiki Deville is an award winning, first class entertainer. Powerhouse vocals and brilliant comic timing have made her one of the most sought after hosts on the UK and European cabaret circuit.

Kiki hails from Australia, moving to America first and then settling in the UK 20 years ago. Alongside extensive live work, Kiki has been seen on a number of shows like The Voice UK and as a judge on the hit BBC show, All Together Now.

An evening with Kiki is like finding a new best friend.

We’re looking for queer writers, creators and content makers in Yorkshire to create new short monologues about drag and queer nightlife. You don’t have to be a Drag Race obsessive, but we are interested in stories with plenty of realness, shade and quality T.

Led by writer / creator Tabby Lamb (Happy Meal), we’re providing a series of online masterclasses on approaches to creating monologues, how to write characters and dialogue. You’ll receive feedback on your writing, and then be given the opportunity to perform your work live at York Theatre Royal!

It’s free to take part, but spaces are limited, so we ask that you commit to the following date:

Friday November 17th, 13:00 - 21:00 at York Theatre Royal

Plus one of the following workshop sessions to create your script:

Wednesday November 8th, 19:00 - 21:00 on Zoom

Wednesday November 15th, 19:00 - 21:00 on Zoom

You can sign up here. Applications will close once all the places are filled.

If you have any questions, please contact Steven Atkinson on hello@rootstouring.com

We’re excited to meet you!
