Are you a Merseyside-based LGBTQIA writer, creator or content maker looking for collaboration and a stage? Then we have an opportunity for you…
"Life must be represented not as it is, but as it ought to be; as it appears in dreams."
In Chekhov's The Seagull, Kon, a young, brilliant artist, writes a bold new play that dares to imagine a better world than our own.
In Queer Scratch, we're inviting 8 theatremakers to create their own take on that play, writing and then performing at Unity Theatre, their own short work that imagines this better world through an LGBTQIA lens.
You’ll be working with Roots, Yorkshire’s award-winning queer theatre company, and will receive training from leading theatre makers in Liverpool, including writer Luke Barnes (Cinderella) and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse's Nathan Powell.
We’ll pay you a small fee for taking part.
We’re looking for LGBTQIA storytellers who are excited to create new work, perform and are ambitious to develop their creative experience.
What do we need from you?
Be available to rehearse and perform at Unity Theatre, June 28th 2025 (14:00 – 21:00)
Join a workshop at the Everyman, June 27th 2025 (14:00 – 18:00)
Find time to write your monologue ahead of the show
Otherwise, any additional meetings, mentoring and training that Roots will provide will be shaped around your availability.
Apply here (closes May 30th 18:00).
All applicants will be informed by email of the outcome by June 2nd 10:00. Please check your spam box.
